Kids Catch A Special Thrill (C.A.S.T.) Fishing at Packery Channel

Photo Opportunity September 21

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Kids will experience the adventure and thrill of fishing…from hooking the bait to casting the rod out to the ocean for the sweet anticipation of catching a fish at the Catch A Special Thrill (C.A.S.T.) event.

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Beach Operations and the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, along with volunteers, will take local children with disabilities or special needs fishing. Each child will have a volunteer buddy to spend a day fishing on the northside of Packery Channel at the end of Zahn Road next to the jetty.

Catch A Special Thrill (C.A.S.T.) is a youth fishing program that encourages children with disabilities to enjoy the great sport of fishing. This year, the six-hour fishing event will benefit 57 local child participants. Approximately 143 volunteers and over 100 family members will also join in on the fun. Registration for this event has closed.

Our generous sponsors are instrumental in providing each registered child with his/her very own fishing rod and reel, tackle box with fishing supplies, and a t-shirt! The day will conclude with an awards ceremony and presentation of plaque with a photo for each child with their fishing buddy.

“We enjoy hosting this exciting outdoor fishing event for our local kids each year and watching the thrill as each child reels in their catch. There is something special about fishing and the camaraderie that makes the time pass by so quickly. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and share in the fun,” said Martha Lawhon, C.A.S.T. event coordinator for the City of Corpus Christi Beach Operations.

While this event is taking place, the north jetty of Packery Channel will remain open to the public for fishing, so come out and play. For more information contact Management Assistant Martha Lawhon at (361) 826-3469 or via email at marthal@cctexas.com.
